Steel and wood make a good team

The construction industry must rethink and make its contribution to climate protection. Wood benefits from this rethink in the construction industry like no other material. Hybrid constructions in combination with wood are often the optimal solution for a resource-saving use of materials. Wood is often combined with concretefor ceiling constructions and wood with steel for skeleton structures. From a static and structural point of view, both wood and steel have strengths and weaknesses. Steel has a very high load-bearing capacity, but a very low performance in case of fire. Above all, its problematic ecological footprint is the reason why planners avoid steel in their constructions. Nevertheless, steel has its justification...

After graduating from high school, Matthias Eisele first completed a carpentry apprenticeship. Then he went on to study civil engineering at Biberach University of Applied Sciences, graduating with a degree in engineering. Matthias Eisele has been with merz kley partner since 2004 and a partner since 2015. He has been acting as an external examiner at BFH Biel since 2021. In 2022, Matthias completed a CAS in SME Management at the University of St. Gallen.
